On 25 April 1986, the ‘.nl’ top-level domain name became one of the first country codes for which responsibility was delegated to a body outside the US.
The body in question was the CWI (Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica or Centre for Mathematics and Information Technology), run by Piet Beertema.
